What I’m Reading: Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber

The perfect book to kick off your summer reading list, Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe, by Heather Webber, is a Southern story full of charm, personality, and pie. I love a story set in the South, with family secrets, neighborhood gossip, and a dose of Southern hospitality, and this novel delivers on all fronts. Set in the summer, a young woman becomes the temporary owner of a cafe that was owned by her now-deceased grandmother. There is a mystique about the cafe, in particular about the pie, and the blackbirds that visit during the night. Rumor has it that the blackbirds bring messages from departed loved ones who have eaten pie from the cafe that day. Not a bad marketing tactic… The characters are quirky and personable, making the story a delight to read.
